EC Directive 2011/65/EU, which has been in effect since 2013, is intended to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and regulates the use and placing on the market of hazardous substances in equipment and electronic components.

The first European RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC was published on June 1, 2006. On July 1, 2011, the revised version of this directive, the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU—also known as “RoHS II”—took effect, expanding upon and replacing the original directive.
