Economic Barometer: Analytical and Laboratory Technology

The order situation in Western Europe remains strong; Asia has stabilized following a slump; and North America is fluctuating but clearly in positive territory: With its Economic Barometer for Analytical and Laboratory Technology, the industry association SPECTARIS provides a straightforward tool for a quick market assessment. The brief survey, conducted quarterly, provides participants with insights into current trends regarding order intake in Germany and regions worldwide. Participants can indicate whether business performance has improved, worsened, or remained unchanged compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and what trends they expect for the coming quarter.

The figure shown is the net balance of responses indicating “better outlook” and “worse outlook.” In this example: In the first quarter of 2018, the same percentage of participants rated the outlook as “better” as those who rated it as “worse,” resulting in a net balance of zero. In the second quarter, 26% more participants rated the outlook as “better” than as “worse.”

Participation in the Business Barometer has so far been reserved for SPECTARIS members. Through the partnership with GIT Labor trade journal and the resulting invitation to additional manufacturers to participate, the results are becoming even more meaningful and thus offer participants even greater guidance. 

The survey takes a maximum of 5 minutes to complete. The results are published in the print edition of GIT six weeks after evaluation. Survey participants receive the results digitally immediately after evaluation.
