The Asia-Pacific Weeks
Every two years since 1997, Berlin has extended an invitation to dialogue with the Asian-Pacific region. Held on the initiative of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, the Asia-Pacific Weeks feature more than 150 events related to business, science and culture. This dialogue forum, the only one of its kind in Europe, attracts attention and arouses curiosity, provides information, establishes contacts and transforms Berlin into the center of exchange with partners from the Asian-Pacific region.
At the 8th Asia-Pacific Weeks from 6 to 17 September 2011, the agenda will focus on health, food and water – the topics of tomorrow. In light of our shared values and responsibilities, dialogue is to be promoted between Europe and Asia, especially in the charged areas of business, technology, ecology and art, so that together we can find answers to the global questions of the future.
The success of the Asia-Pacific Weeks is based on close cooperation between the federal state of Berlin and a network of strategic partners and players: the Senate Chancellery is responsible for overall coordination, while Berlin Partner GmbH, the Asia-Pacific Forum Berlin and the House of World Cultures operate as strategic partners. As members of the Advisory Board, federal ministers and heads of relevant business and cultural institutions support the Governing Mayor’s initiative.

The Business and Science Program
In 2011, this program is once again dedicated to intensive dialogue between the Asian-Pacific region and Europe. Experts from the Asian-Pacific region will come to Berlin for the specialist forums, to talk about the latest developments and to exchange ideas with their German colleagues. The issues this time are green hospitals, the challenges facing the health systems of tomorrow, regenerative medicine, the latest food trends, quality and sustainability in the food industry and integrated water resources management. The three forums at the Berlin Town Hall will be hosted by the Asia-Pacific Forum Berlin and Berlin Partner GmbH. A business contact forum is an integral part of the dialogue forums and serves to establish cooperation between companies from Germany and the Asian-Pacific region. Prior to this, at the Asia-Pacific External Trade Forum on September 7, small and medium-sized German companies will have the opportunity to find out about the different types of government support available for their foreign business. During the second week of the Asia-Pacific Weeks Berlin, there will be many interesting discussions, symposiums and workshops related to the main issues. These events will be put together by many individual organizers, such as embassies from the Asian-Pacific region, federal-state associations, chambers and federations.
